SUPPOSED SHIPPING DISASTER.
WRECKAGE FOUND ON THE EAST
COAST. [by telegraph.—peess association - .] Wellington, Saturday. Tire officers on the s.s. Queen of the South, which arrived from East Coast stations today, bring news of the finding of wreckage on the beaches there, which seems to suggest the loss of some vessel during the late heavy weather, unless the finds can be accounted for by the washing away of an extensive deck cargo. When the steamer called at Glenbum, the hands on Mr. F. Moore's station reported that for the past week bundles of brooms and cases of oranges and kerosene, had been washed ashore at regular intervals. When the vessel reached Flat Point station the hands there reported that cases of oranges, pots of paint, and cabin doors had been washed up on the beach. At Urite, again it was stated that several cases of oranges and pots of paint had been discovered on the beach. There were no clues which could account for this strange circumstances, or indicate the identity of the vessel to which the cargo belonged.
