As the result of the proceedings at tlio Police Court in tlio mailer of the fracas at the Albion Hotel between Constables Moßae, Jackson, and Scott, and somo civilians, a telegram lias been received from the Department at Wellington authorising the dismissal of tho three constables above-named. Constable Skinner has also been requested to send in liis resignation. A meeting of the supporters of Mr. J. Patterson in his candidature for Karangahapo ward at the municipal election was hold last evening in Grubb's Newton Baths. A largo number of supporters wero present. Mr. Patterson addre=t«d tho meeting, giving his different views on the city water supply, drainage, electric lighting, and other subjects. Mr. G. McElwain was voted to the chair, and a largo committee was formed to go through the roll and canvass the ward. Tho consecration of St. Mary's Cathedral by the Primate, which will take place on Thursday morning next, will be an ecclesiastical function of something more than ordinary interest. The Bishop of Wellington will be the preacher upon the occasion, and a special choir has been trained to render tho musio suitable to the occasion. The building, which is now completed, at a total cost of about £7000, to the designs of the late Mr. B. Mountfort, of Christchurch, is a splendid oxamplo of what may be dono in the way of church architecture by a judicious use of different New Zealand timbers. In tho afternoon there will be an " At Home" to meet the prelates who take part in the function, and the opportunity will, we doubt not, be availed of by many citizens. The monthly meeting of the New Zealand Natives Association will be held in the Tailoresses' Hall, on Monday evening next to discuss matters in connection with the coming social: also to welcome back Mr. Bourne and Mr. Mining, the delegates to the conference held in Wellington. Messrs. Arthur Tooman and Co announce, through our auction columns, a verylarge and important sale of nursery stock, on account of Mr. W. Levy. The sale is to be held on Wednesday noxt, and the auctioneers state that it will be one of the largest sales in its line yet held in Auckland. Mr. Levy has regularly held, for nine years past, an annual clearing sale, and the produce of his nursery lias always given-satis-faction. The sale will no doubt attract a large attendance, warranted by tho large catalogue. The prizes won at the Auckland Poultry, Pigeon, and Canary Association's show in July are to be distributed at the offico of Messrs. W. J. Hurst and Co.. Queen-street, between sis and ten o'clock to-night. _ The final meeting of the Ladies' Committee in connection with the Greenwood benefit will be held in St, Paul's schoolroom on Mondayevening. The balance-sheet of the entertainment will be presented to the meeting. Mr. A. 0. Jarrett's pupils were very successful at the speed examination held by the Auckland Shorthand Writers' Association on Wednesday last, five out of the seven certificates being gained by them. One pupil (Miss N. Lambert) gained a certificate for 100 words per minute, after only six months' tuition. Two of the three of Mr. J. H. Colwill's pupils who went up for the speed certificate examination were successful. Master Charles Kastgate (16 years of age) was at the top of the list of candidates, he only having four mistakes of the ten minutes test writing, at a speed of 100 words per minnto. A meeting of the committee of ladies who are organising the Art Pair and Craft Exhibition in aid of the Jubilee Institute for the Blind will he held in the Institute on Monday afternoon. The church notices for to-morrow are given in'another column. Anniversary services are to be held in the Baptist Church, Ponsonby, the Rev. Joseph Parker preaching iD the morning and the Key. A. H. Collins in the evening. The anniversary social in connection with this congregation will be held on Tuesday evening, when addresses will be given by Eabbi Goldstein and the Rev. James Milne. Anniversary services will also be held fa Edendale Presbyterian Mission to-morrow, and a social is announced for Tuesday; The Rev. H. Kelly, the newly-placed minister of Knox Presbyterian Church, Parnell, announces " The HERALD and the Clergy" as ths subject of his sermon for to-morrow evening. In Beresford-street Congregational Church, 'in the evening the Rev. Joseph Parker will give his monthly address to young men, the subject being "Scamps in a Minister's Home." At Newton Congregational Church (Edin-burgh-street) a five days' series of mission services will be. opened, and the Rev. Frederic Warner will preach specially to young men in the evening. In the Grafton Road Wesleyan Church to-morrow evening, . the Rev. :A. Mitchell will conduct a praise service, taking for his subject " Psalmodic Meditations," being the second of a' series of sermons on the 103 rd Psalm. .Mr. Mitchell will sing Barn's I beautiful song, " The Shadow of the Cross," and the new sacred song, " Sion."
