PRINCE ALBERT COLLEGE.

We have to acknowledge receipt of the prospectus for 1898-9 of the Prince Albert College, Upper Queen-street, which has been artistically got up and printed at the Herald Printing Works (Messrs. Wilson and Horton). It contains all the information relativo to the educational work of the college which parents may desire, both as regards the boys' side and that of the girls. The objects and aims of the promoters, it is stated, in opening the college in the early part of 1895, was to secure for boys and girls a high class education upon Christian, but not sectarian, principles, and all the work of the college is carried out with that object in view. The Bible is a school text-book, and class instruction is regularly given from it. It is claimed that " nil subjects of a controversial character are avoided; and while pupils are trained to love, honour, and 'obey God, no attempt is made to recommend any particular system." This system of combining religious with secular education seems to have met a felt want, and to havo been popular with a large section of the general public, for the college, beginning with less than a score of pupils a little over three years ago, has now considerably over 200 scholars, and has progressed, so to speak, by " leaps and bounds." This phenomenal progress must be gratifying alike to the Board of Governors of the college, and to the principal, Mr. Thns. Jackson, M.A., and his staff. The recent alterations and additions to the boys' college consist of two wings at the front, three storeys in height, and an additional storey to the main building. 'Hie diiiingroom-has been enlarged to double its former size, while the dormitory accommodation for boarders has been greatly increased. In the recent alterations and additions to the girls' college the domestic Gothic design has been carried out, and the rooms include six well-appointed classrooms, musicroom, a boarders' sittingroom, comfortable bedrooms, etc. The college has amongst its institutions a literary and debating society, magazine, lending library, orchestra, cricket, football, and swinging clubs, athletic sports club, and cadet corps. Tlio girls have, in addition, a tonnis court. There is on both the boys' and girls' sides a branch of the World's Students' Christian Union. The • prospectus is suitably and tastefully illustrated with views of the boys and girls' colleges (and a grouping of members of the teaching staff), boys' classroom, college gymnasium, girls' classroom, girls dormitory, and college diningroom.
