COMMERCIAL.

AUCKLAND PRODUCE MARKETS. The markets have been fairly supplied with all commodities, but the- very bad weather prevailing has had the usual effect upon the retail trade, causing much less active competition at the auction sales. The scarcity of apples, reported a fortnight ago, and the consequent high prices obtained, have caused shipments to como to hand from all available sources, the result being that prices we now below payable rates to shippers. Poor Han's oranges continue in unlimited demand, whilst lemons are easier, and other fruits show no change in values. The potato markofc is still lighty stocked, and values are more settled. Supplies aro coming from Taranaki, and a quantity is now duo from Whangarei. Onions are rather dull of sale, buyers evidently holding off under tho idea that they will bo able to purchase consignments from America, duo by the next mail steamer, at prices under those now ruling for local varieties. It is understood that tho Mariposa, duo from San Francisco on the 31st inst., will bring a large shipment. Poultry lias been in more plentiful supply, and, there being no shipping demand this week, values wen lower. The butter market is bare, and prime quality is a scarce commodity. By Telegraph.— Association-Copyright. Sydney, August 19. Potatoes are scarce. The market is strong. Now Zealand prime, £7 10s to £7 15s. Some holders decline to quote. Furthor advance imminent. Onions, very scarce, £17 offered and refused for a consignment by tho Talune. LONDON. By Telegraph.— Association.—Copyright. LONDON, August 18. The estimated American visible supply of wheat is 9,892,000 bushels. GRAIN MARKET. [BY TELEGRAPH.— ASSOCIATION.] IxVEltCAltoiU, Friday. There is a decided improvement in the market, merohants realising that stocks of oats in Southland are not likely to be more than sufficient to meet the demand for the remainder of the season. The stock is estimated to amount to 218,000 sacks, which is below the average held in previous seasons. To the North Island in tho year ending March 31, Over 155,000 sacks wore shipped. Since that date over 80,000 sacks have gone North. Canterbury usually exports oats to the North, but this year it is estimated that tho 150,000 sacks already sent from the Otaso district will supply Canterbury wants. There has been an immense falling off in the requirements of Australia. Last year 205.000 sacks went from the Bluff; this year, to the end r.f July, only 20,000 were sent. It is calculated that no fall will take place in values, while a reasonable advance on late prices is probable. Present quotations arc: 2s 2d to 2s sd, f.o.b. (sacks included), according to grade. There is a good demand for barley and for rye grass seed of 271b to 301b per bushel. AUCKLAND STOCK EXCHANGE.
