OPPOSITION CAUCUS.
[BY TELEfillAl'M.— CORItKSI'OXDEXT.] Wellington, Monday. A caucus of the Opposition party was held this morning, all the members of the party being accounted for. Among the questions considered was that of the debate on the Financial Statement. It was suggested that Ministers should be given the opportunity of bringing on their Bills to-morrow, instead of taking the debate, but the general feeling of the caucus was in favour of the debate being taken in the ordinary way. Certain other suggestions were made as to amendments on the motion to go into Committee of Supply, or, as is more generally understood, during the debate, but no decision was arrived at, further than to set up the following executive to consider the question of amendments, and report at another caucus to-morrow, namely, Captain Russell, Messrs. Rolleston, (1. Hutchison, and Scobie Mackenzie. The committee, will, I understand, recommend that an amendment be moved, calling upon the Government to at once make provision for going on with the construction of the rolling stock necessary for next season, and by so doing give employment to the men who have been discharged from the railway workshops. The amendment will be probably moved by Captain Russell to-morrow, and will, doubtless, be accepted by the Premier as equivalent to a no-confidence motion.
