MONDAY POPULAR CONCERTS. I

The City Hall was well filled last night to hear the ninth of Mr. P. R. Dix's series of popular concerts. The concert was as usual an unqualified success, the programme presented being a most varied and attractive one. The feature of the evening was undoubtedly Mr. Cooper's beautiful myriorama of the " Land of the Moa." The views depicting the early days of colonisation and the battlefields of hw Zealand were certainly veryfine and drew forth repeated applause from the large audience. Mr. P. R. Dlx, the general promoter of these concerts, made an excellent delineator. Mies 0. Knight sang most effectiroly "Home, Sweet Home," and "Kind Sir" ("Gondoliers"), responding to encores on each occasion. Miss Fitzpatrick was at usual most; successful in both her items, and Miss V. Gehton (a debutante) sang with sweetness and great expression, but somewhat lacked confidence. The mandolin solos of Mr. WynyardJose were each exquisitely rendered, and loud recalls demanded; Mr. Joss is undoubtedly a perfect mister of hit instrument. Mr. Abel Rowe's "Volnnteer Soldier," with chorus and limelight effects, and Mr. Tayler'e selections from "lolanthe" were all sueeessful, and encores duly responded to. Mr. Buttery eanjs "The Sleeping Camp" (with limelight effects) and " The Romany Lass" in a pleasing manner. Altogether the concert wa« a decided'NCCMl, and if the present standard is maintained, the continued success of the Monday concerts should be almost assured.
