THE MARIST BROS PUPILS.

Even standing accommodation was barely available ab the Opera House last evening, the occasion being that of the annual dramatic and musical entertainment by the pupils of tho Mariet Brothers' College and Schools, tho proceeds of which will be devoted to school improvements. The programme, a most enjoyable one, was prefaced by an overture by the college orchestra, after whioh a series of dumb-bell exerciises with HmeliKhteffoots, were given by sixteen junior pupils, in gymnastio attire, from the college. These were gone through with a precision that reflected the utmost credit on the instructor, Sergeant-Major Lawrance, who at a later stage put » large squad of the scholars through the " Maze Drill," an itein that was most emphatically rendered. The drama " Sir Thoß. More" was staged, dressed, and acted in a manner thnt reflected the highest credit on all concerned, in fact, so good were tho several characters sustained Dy the pupils that it would be invidious to select any particular individual or individuals for special mention. The chorus, by tho pupiltf, with tableaux, was especially effective. The second portion of the programme embraced the overture " Festival,' by the college pupils, the recitative, aria, quartette and chorus, "Zealandia," Master E. O'Hare being the soloist; the duet "How Had it is to Say Farewell" by Mastere J. Carrigan and W. Thome, and the amuilng comedietta " Too Late for the Train." tho items in each instance well deserving the appltuM meted out to them. During the evening short Addresses were given by Dr. Lenihan and Brother Henry. Praiee ia due to tlie school teachers under whose directions the items were prepared, to the supervisor, Mr. Griffiths; to Mr. P. Hitcock, who was in charge of the orcheetra, comprising thirty performers; and to Mr. K. Eagleton who provided the costumes worn. In response to numerous requests the Brothers have decided to repeat the entertainment this evening, when the proceeds will be devoted to the euffereri by the recent H»wke'» Bay floods,
