TRADE DISPUTES.

[Bt TELEGRAPH.—PRESS ASSOCIATION,] Christchoiioh, Monday. The Conciliation Board sat to-day in the matter of a dispute between the Federated Bootmakers' Union and non-associated employers, the latter having refused to accept and work and abide by the Arbitration Court's award of tho 3rd December, 1896, reepecting conditions of labour, general rules, and employment of npprenticee, and to pay the prices and extrns for work done as agreed upon. Both sides were fully represented. The Board decided as the employers had Union hands in their employ at the time the dispute was lodged thoy came within the jurisdiction of the Board, which gave them till Monday next to accept or reject the award of the Arbitration Court. The decision does not apply to Maine Bros., which caso was adjourned till to-morrow. Wellington, Monday. The Conciliation Board sac again to-day und further discussed the tailors' dispute. The Presidont of the Operative Tailors' Union strongly urged that no more than one man on weekly wage should be employed in each shop, and pointed out that that wan the system at home, all others being piece-workers. This was supported by two employers who had boon 35 and 25 years in tho trade respectively. Mr. King, for the employers, eaid he could prove that such was not the system in Wellington, as out of 16 shops over a third employed more than the weekly man. Mr. Kelly, M.H.R., thoucht picco-work was tho fairest system. The Court adjourned until tomorrow,
