Timaru, Saturday. A large and sympathetic gathering took place at Temnka last night) when a testimonial of esteem was presentod to Mr. A. E. Q. Rhodes, a former member, and the defeated candidate for the Übraldino electorate. Tito present took the form of a hahdsotiio album, to contain the names of over 1600 Shilling subscribers. Mr. 0. J. Dehhlstoli presided. Dr. Hayes iliado the presentation, and political speeches were made by MessH. Rbileston, Scobie Mckenzie, J. Allen, Wnsoh, and Moore. was an Opposition meeting, and in sympathy with tho speakers iii their criticism of the Government. Most of the speakers went over old ground, bub Mr. Uollestort made soma references to the speech of the Premier at Potono since the House roSe, condemning him for his references to the Opposition as filibustering marauders, and for misleading the people by claiming for the new Liberalism credit for movements begun by the old.
