AUCKLAND ROGBY UNION.

A special general meeting of the Auckland Rugby Union was held at the Club room, Metropolitan Hotel, last night to consider several motions, of which uoiice had been given. Mr. A. E. T. Derore (president oi the Union) ocoupied the chair, and there was a good attendance of members and delegates. The first motion considered was one of which Mr. W. Airey had given notiee—to the effect that one instead of three be appointed to select representative teams. Mr. Webster seconded. It was generally admitted that the appointment of three members as a selection committee had not giren satisfaction, that when more than one acted compromises had necessarily to be effected, and that the majority ot delegates were strongly in favour of on* man being appointed. An. amendment was moved by Mr. (J. E. MacCormack, seconded by Mr. G. H. Dixon, " That the committee be empowered to appoint one or three as members of the Selection Commitee as the exigencies of the case demanded." Mr. MaoCormack explaining that he moved the amendment for Mr. T. Henderson, who was absent. Only three voted for the amendment, and the motion was put to the meeting and carried. Mr. Lees brought forward the position nf the Suburbs district for consideration. He explained that that district could not obtain the services of sufficient players to enable it to put a first fifteen in the field, and that the players were anxious to know if under the circumstances they would be allowed to play for other clubs. The majority of the speakers said they recognised the importance of the nutter, but thought that to allow suburban players to become members of other clubs would bt establishing a bad precedent, which would have the effect of injuring football. The chairman suggested as a way out of the difficulty that those residing in the suburbs district willing to play football be requested to forward their names to the secretary of the Union by the 28th inst., when the committee would consider the position and call another meeting, the Suburbs to have a bye for the first match. 'This was eventually carried unanimously. It was decided, on the motion of Mr. Dixon, to elect Mr. J. Araeil a life member of the Union, in recognition of the services which he had rendered to Auckland football.
