DROWNING ACCIDENTS.

Wellington, Thursday. Pem Smith, a half-caste, living nea Pioton, was drowned off Waikanae bar. He was a member of the crew of the cutter Nui, recently from Picton, and was thrown into the water by a sudden lurch in a heavy sea. The dingy being washed away, no attempt could be made to save him. The body is not recovered.

Mastkhton, Thursday. The body of a man, reported to be Robt. Finney, a labourer, aged about 40, was found in the Waipoua Kiver, near Mastertoo, to-day. InvekoahqiliL, Thursday. An inquest was held to day on tho body of Robert (Jorbett, a seaman, supposed native of London; aged 50, whose body wns found suspended to a stringer of the Biuff Wharf, this morning, by the arm Corbett shipped in the Lain, for London, qn the Ist instant, and on the 9th the captain reported that he mid another seaman had deserted. The latter wan apprehended, but nothing was reeu of Corbett till his body was found He was last seen going down the wharf on the ni^ht of the Bth to the vessel. He had' been drinkin<;, but wan supposed to bo able to tiko care of himself. A verdict of found drowned was returned.
