Geobgi Foscr.-The plaintiffs, auctioneers, of Auoklaod, sued the defendant, a fruiterer, of Coromandel, for £26 la 9d, balance of account for goods sold and delivered. Mr. Battles conducted the plaintiffs' case. Defendant was unrepresented by counsel during the first part of the case, but subsequently Mr. Burton appeared tor him. The question was one of accounts, and after hearing the evidence His Worship gave judgment for plaintiffs for the amount claimed, with £4 2a costs. POLICE COURT.-Tuorsday. (Before Messrs. D. B. McDonald anil 11, NiccoJ, J,P.( Drunkenness.—A fine of 5j aud costs was imposed in each of four cases of drunkenness. By-Laws.-William Lucas and Norman Baker, for hiu ins ridden their bicycles after dark without proper liehts, were fined respectively 53 and 10s, with costs. Sergeant Clarke stated that lately the dancerout practice of riding bicycles without light* through the streets at night had become very freqi-ent. The police had u great deal of trouble in securing offenders of this class, as they generally made off at the first sight of a constable. For driving a vehicle at other than a walking pace round the corner of Customs and Queen-streets, Clement Totman was fined 5s with costs, or in default 7 days' imprisonment. Thomas Bollond, convicted of having driven a cart after dark without lights was ordered to pay a fine oi H and costs, in view of extenuating circum« stances. Forious DRIVINO.-Robert Notton and John Griffiths pleaded guilty to thi charge that they drove their respective vehicles furiously in Rhyber Pass on April 10. From the evidence this appears to have been a case of racing between the two drivers, as they were conveying passengers from thY Ellerslie races on the day stated in the charge. The Traffic Inspector, who laid the information,_stated that the passengers in one of the vehicles in question had been so alarmed that five of them jumped ont while the brake was in motion rather than await - the chanije of a collision. The Bench inflicted a tine of 20a with costs in each case. 111-TREATMEHT o? a Horse. - Joseph Whitley pleaded guilty to the charge that at cruelly ilttreated his horse by working her while she was suffering from sores. The evidence of the boy who drove the horse, and of a constable was taken, and showed that the mare had been harnessed in a cart while her neck and withers were sore. The horse was also in a very low and weak condition at the time. The Bench considered the charge proved, and fined the accused 20s with costs. Alleged Insulting Lancoage.-A charge against Robert Notton that he used insulting language to John Griffiths was adjourned on defendant's application till the 30th inst. Lakceny.—Kate Hinch, also convicted ot ' drunkenness, was found gailty 'of having stolen a pillow and pillow-case, worth altogether Bs, from Jessie ftormau, and waj sent to prison for the t«m of one month, with bud labour. ::•
