ABOUT MISSIONARIES.
TO THE EDITOR. \vS Sib,— other day I noticed in the New • Zealand Herald a quotation from the enemy, slurring the missionaries, insinuating that they had done do good. I was greatly astonished, and somewhat annoyed, for so ' very much the reverse has lately appeared in evidence. During this whole century the ' London Missionary Society with its heroin ■'-•i agents have evangelised most of the ferocious, St* savage cannibals of the South Sea Islands, ' . ; rendering it possible for white traders to call and deal; and such civilians as Macgregor #3$ and Moss are using the good work, and civilly building on that foundation. Mac- :*' gregor (New Guinea) said last month, he can. •" / not go where the missionaries have not been, ,5s and grievously complained of his limitation; interior occupied by the most savage of men. 'jfjfa Missions there only latest 20 years, yet --M wonders have been accomplished.— am. -S etc., W. E. Sadler. -sSS April 19,1897. '
