THE GALE.

The heavy gale reported in the Herald of Saturday, has been experienced all along the coast and out to sea. The Union Company's steamer Takapuna could not connect at New Plymouth, owing to the heavy sea, and had to pass on to Onehunga, the Southern portion of the English and American mails for transmission by the Alameda having to come on by the Gairloch, the Alameda being detained at Auckland for over two hours in consequence. The Northern Company's steamer Waitangi on her trip up from Mercury Bay experienced very rough weather, and her passengers had a very lively experience. Early yesterday morning the gale blew itself out, and during the day the weather was quite calm and mild, the wind blowing from south-west. (BY TELEGRAPH.—OWN CORRESPONDENT.] Hamilton, Saturday. A strong southerly wind has been blowing all day and appearances indicate a sharp frost to-night.
