SUICIDES.

On tho passage up of the s,e. Clansman from Maugonui a prisoner named Mark Bonovich, in Austrian gumdigger, who had been committed for trial for attempted rape on a Maori girl, committed Kuicido by hanging in a stooping position from the ptisij .supporting Hie bunk. 11l appeared that deceased had first torn one of the ruga into strips, and then took the tapes off the lifebelt under tho pillow, and thus effected his object'of committing euioide. At the inqueaD on the 19th of March tho jury returned a verdiot to the effect that deceased committed suicide, with a rider stating no blame was attachable to anyone. So far as known, deceased had no relativos in the colony. He was 70 years of age, but a very active robust man. An inquest was held on March 20 at Puni, by Mr. K. F. Webster, J. P., aotingcoroner, to enquire into the circumstances surrounding the death of Mrs. Sarah Guerney. According to the evidence adduced Mrs. (juerney had been in bad health for yours past, and at times her mind slightly affected. It had been usual for her family to keep everything that might be dangerous or hurtful out of her way, bab on Friday morning last she managed during the brief temporary absence of her daughter, to obtain possession of a bottle containing hydrochloric acid and drank it. The jury returned a verdict to the effect that deceased died from the effect of poison taken by herself while in a state of temporary insanity. Joseph Aitken, cook at W. Rutherford's Montrose station, Canterbury, committed suicide on Sunday night, the 4th of April, by cutting bis throat. A storekeeper named Alex. McDonald, carrying on business at Waimauku, committed suicide on Sunday, April 11, by taking strychnine.
