The following are the names of (he contingent selected to go home :—Lieut. -Colonel Fitt (commandant), Captain Robin, Otago Hussars; Lieutenant Prinze, Manawata Mounted Rifles ; Sergeants-Major Rogers, Hawera Mounted Rifles; Seageanb Roll, North Otago Mounted Rifles; Sergeant Somerville, Alexandra Mounted Rifles; Corporal Haydon, Canterbury Yeomanry ; Corporal Slinn, Heretaunea Mounted Rifles; Bugler Chenwin, Canterbury Mounted Rifles; Privates Bond and Lines, Southland Mounted Rifles; Private Burr, Wairoa Mounted Hided; Private! Close, Lloyd, and Marshall, Manawatu Mounted Rifles; Private Glover, Uranb, and Hutson, Heretaunjja Mounted Rifles ; Privates Grant and Henderson, North Otago Mounted Rifles; Privates Hamilton, McDonnell, and Watson, Marlboraugh Mounted Kifles; Private O'Neill, Hawera Mounted Rifles; I'rivates Cordale, Crossley, and Parsons, Canterbury Yeomanry; Privates Freeman and Hazletb, Otago Hutmrs; Privates Montgomerie and Rice, Alexandra Cavalry. The average height of the men in sft. lOin. There were twelve rejections. The contingent will leave by the steamship Ruahine, which will take her departure from Lyttelton on the 27th insfc.

The Premier, accompanied by (he Hone. Carroll and Hall-Jones And Mr, Graham, M.H.H., visited Island Bay this morning and inspected the European and Maori contingents. Colonel Ponton and Major Maddocka were also present. Both contingents went through a series of evolutions, and rode piisc tbe carriage containing the Ministers, The Premier briefly addressed the contingents, and at the conclusion of their evolutions the men wore selected. Both contingents are fine-looking epecimeiis, and though the European contingent were nob dressed in the new uniforms they made a fine appearance. The Maoris, being much heavier, do nob appear to suoh advantage, but are quite as efficient as regards drill. Mr. Heke, M.H.R., and two representatives to the Maori Parliament, 'were interested spectators of tbis morning's display.
