DEATH OF THE STALLION DREADNOUGHT.

Napikr, Tuesday. The stallion Dreadnought, owned by the Hon. J. D. Ormond, was found dead in a niiddock belonging to that gentleman, at Karamu. [Dreadnought was a son of the celebrated Yatteudon horse Chester, and the imported maro Trafalgar. As a racehorse he proved himself a capital performer, and amongst the important races which ho won were the V.R.C. Derby of 1889 and the Australian (Jup of IS9O. At the ilispors.il of the late Hon. James White's stud in the latter vear Dreadnought was purchased by Lord Kestoven for 2100 guineas, but an advance of 500 guineas on that sum beinn offered by Mr. W. T. Jones, that gentleman secured him. The son of Chester, however, proved an unprofitable purchase to the Viotorian sportsman, who never oneo had the satisfaction of seeing his colours carried by the sou of Chester. Dreadnought was subsequently purchased by the Hon. Mr. Ormond, for 1000 guineas, and during the time that ho was at the stud at that gentleman's estate he sired a fair percentile ot' winners, chief of which may be mentioned Dauntless, Defiance, Defiant, and Sir Launcelot. RICCARTON TRAINING NOTES. CumsTOHUKOH, Tuesday. Manawanui aud Gold Leaf, Chaos and Bloomer in pairs, and Jewel alone, galloped six furlongs. Salvo Shot and Sprig of Myrtle together, Telemeter, Belligerent, and Boreas in company, and Burshot alone, ran seven furlongs. Leda and Raneefiuder, Belle Clair and Black and Red together, Speculator and Rustic each alone at a mile, performed the best work of tho morning; though Choroid and Weary, Skirmisher, Brace, Daunt, Bold, Admiralty, and Mauser were others that put in pleasing tasks at shorter distances. Tallyho covered two miles well. Maxiinus, Mareme, and Lord Roslyn, Feline, Vanilla, Toxa, Social Pest, Female Franchise, and Lord Zetland did moro or leas easy work. Barshot, who was reported to have bruised one of his heels when coming of the steamer, walked sore both before and after his work yesterday and this morning.

A TROTTING DISQUALIFICATION REVOKED. CiißisTOiiaßOU, Tuesday. At a meeting of the South Island Trotting Association an appeal was received from T. Walker against the disqualification of him--Bi>lf and his mare, Annie Roonoy, by the New Brighton Trotting Club. The appeal was sustained, and the totalisator dividend of £79 will be paid on Annie Rooney, A resolution was also passed that the Association views with dissatisfaction the principle of betting by stewards who sit in judgment upon protests.
