AUCKLAND CHRYSANTHEMUM SOCIETY.

♦——■• The Auckland Chrysanthemum Society's exhibition will be opened this afternoon in Drill Hall at three o'clock. From present indications the Show promises to bo ono of tho most successful ever held under the auspices of the Society, as no loss than 160 JO blooms will be on exhibition, in addition to a very large number of other exhibits of various kinds.

Keen competition is expeoted in the clans fur table decorations, which alone will occupy a spaco of some 156 square feet. These exhibits aro to bo judged by the public, who will bo supplied with voting paporn on the first day of the Show. Tho results will be given in Wednesday's daily papers. The Cambridge contingent have already arrived, and it is Anticipated chat a stubborn context for tho championship and for the National Chrysanthemum Society of England's Jubilee Medal will take place between that veteran enthusiast Mr. Thos. Wells, Cambridge's champion, wd Auckland's last year's champion Mr. Alfred Taylor, of Norihcote.

Dahlias will this year form quiU* a'e..ture of tho Show, as they havo nover boloro been seen in greater perfection in Auckland. Tho cactus section in particular will show groat strides, as there aro somo lovely new shades of colour in this section.

The decorations upon which a large staff of men have been engaged for the past few days already present a charming effect, and the Drill Hall will be quite a picture. On Wednesday an afternoon tea will be given; the arrangements for which have been very kindly undertaken by Mesdames Ruck, Lewis, Theo. Kissling, Hugh Campbell, etc., and which promises to be a very successful function. The ladies have very generously provided cakes, etc., and a small charge will bo made to assist the funds of tho Society. The Chrysanthemum Exhibition has now become an established annual institution, to which the public have always shown a kindly feeling, and a record attendance is expected on the present occasion.
