COMPENSATION CASES AT PAEROA.

[byteluquapu.—own correspondent.] Paeroa, Saturday. Jodgment was given this inoruing in Mrs. Nioholl's compensation claim for £400 per acre. Judge Mair gave a written judgment, carefully reviewing the ovidence and arguments. He pronounced the rate roll, which valued the block at £4 per acre, no bettor and no worse than others he hud seen. A ourious claim was made by some natives, namely, £300 tor destruction of an eel fishery in a swamp by the railway line. This was settled by Mr. Thompson, who represented the Government, with Mr. XV. Dey, who appeared as solicitor for the claimants, but the amouut agreed upon was not mentioned, it being lumped with the area actually taken and claim for severance at £150.
