MAORI BONESCRAPERS.
(BT TELEGRAPH.—OWN OOMtESrONEENT.] Kawakawa, Friday. A case of body-snatching, in which four of the natives previously warnod worn implicated, was tried by Mr. Ciondon, S.M., yesterday. Tlio natives took the body from private ground at Kaikoho all tho way to Waioniio for bonoscrapini; purposes. It had only been buried six months. Tawhaia l'uataata, the owner of tho ground, and stepson to tho woman whose body was exhumed, prosecuted. As tho case was proceeding he wanted to withdraw the charge. This was granted on condition tlitt the Colonial Secretary would agroo, and the oxpensos (£7 4i) were paid. After consulting the defendants, Puatanta said they would not pay, mid as the latter declined also to pay, the oaso proceeded, resulting in each defendant being fined 40s, which, together with tho costs, came to £15 4*.
