BANKRUPTCY.

Allan William O'Neill, a bankrupt, made I a sworn statement before the Official Assignee in Bankruptcy (Mr. John Lawson) yesterday, as under:— am a solicitor by profession, practising in Auckland. 1 was adjudicated bankrupt yesterday on the bank of New Zealand's petition, my sole creditor. The Bank's claim is £4120 Is, being a call of £3 6s 8d per share on 1131 shares in that institution, including interest. The Bank obtained judgment against my brother Lewis O'Neill and myself. Freeman Johnson, of Johnson Brothers, Waihi, a bankrupt, in a sworn statement, said:—l am a partner of the firm of Johnson Brothers, lately carrying on business as fruiterers and restaurant-keepers, at Waihi. I joined my brother Harry in this undertaking in May, 1896. We started the new business with a cash capital £75 each. We had no other monetary assistance. Our liabilities to 49 unsecured creditors amounted to £702 19s 3d, exclusive of all promissory notes. The assets total £679—deficiency, £23195. I have no suggestion to make in the nature of a compromise. I have disclosed everything we jointly possess, and neither of us have any i private assets whatever.
