In consequence of the discovery of rid alluvial gold and a reef in the vicinity, the management of Block 45 mine on Hampton Plains, pear Kalgoorlie, is offering a reward of ten thousand pounds and a half interest to the finder of a payable reef on their property, THE BUTLER CASE. Sydney, April 1. The Mariposa was two days late in leaving San Francisco, but is expected to make this up before she reaches Auckland. The Governor has received a cable message from the British Consul at San Francisco confirming the news of the departure of Butler by tho Mariposa.

WRECK OF A SCHOONER.

Thursday Island, April 7.

The steamer Warrogo brought the crew and passengers of the schooner Myrtle, wrecked on the Barrier Hcef, near Lizard Island. Only brief details are to hand, bat it is understood that all were saved. The vessel is likely to become a total wreck.

[The Myrtle belonged to Messrs. Burns, Fhilp, and Co., of Sydney, and has been engaged in the Island trade for some years. She was built by Messrs. Lane and Brown, of Whangaroa, in 1878, and was employed in the Auckland trade for some years, being sold to tbe Sydney firm in 1887. Hei dimensions were as follows :—Length, 95' i" feet; breadth, 23 6 feet; depth, 103 feet, tonnage, 167.

DEATH SENTENCE COMMUTED.
