WOOL CLIP OF AUSTRALASIA.
The Insurance and Banking Record for March points out that although the Australasian wool clip has increased fronl 1,395,000 bales in 1888-89 to, say, 1,870,000 bales in 1896-97, its value is about £1,000,000 less. The increase in quantity is about 475,000 bales, or 34 per cent., bub for this increased quantity we obtain 5 por cent, loss monev. At tho prices of only eight years ago the present clip would have been worth £8,400,000 more than it is likely to realise. This is what a drop from £16 a Ijalo to £11 10s a bale means to the pastoral
