RAILWAY EMPLOYEES.
[BY TELEGRAPH.—OWN COHRESI'OKDENI.] Wellington, Saturday, The word has gone forth that there is to be a considerable reduction in the number of railway servants and employees. Tho rumours current about the promotion of young men over the heads of old and tried servants and officers, have produced considerable alarm. The services of about 80 men will shortly be dispensed with, This decimation of labour is not, I learn, to be applied to tho.Petone workshops or the Hutt line It is hardly likely that on the eve of a contested election the Government would risk the chance of their candidate.
