WAIKATO AGRICULTURAL SHOW.

— —: — ' ; .' . ' [by telegraph.— OWN CORRESPONDENT.] Hamilton, Saturday. The display of machinery, implements, etc., was a very fine one, and quite eclipsed all former shows. The finest display was without doubt that of Messrs. W. Souter and Co. This firm had on the ground a'fine Hornsby's six-horse traction engine, having all the latest improvements, specially imported for Mr. A. Wallace, of Pukerimu. In connection with this is Andrews and"Bevan's patent double bagger chaffcuttor, a windmill with pump attached working very efficiently. Messrs. Gee and Potter showed a fine collection of lObuggies of different kinds, two dogcarts, and three splendidly-built _ waggons. In agricultural implements their exhibit .comprises a great variety, consisting of Beany's disc harrows, from orchard sizee up to farm sizes, which show many improvements; also field rollers, ploughs', and harrows, of the same make. The .celebrated McCormick mower shown has an improved oiling gear, and is of extra strong make. The Duncan scarifier is a new implement in this district. It is light and easily lifted, though of strong make, should become vory popular with our farmers. Messrs. Souter also have a good exhibit of Sutton's seeds, catalogues, and Kempthorue, Prossor, and Co.'s manure. Messrs. T. and S. Morrin and Co,, whose local agents are Messrs. Parr Bros., of Hamilton, have a very fine lot of exhibits, amongst which are two deserviug special mention, viz., the spading harrow and • Stoddart's Climax discs. On this stand there is a fine assortment of • Oliver and ' blue bell' single and double furrow ploughs. The doublefurrow is a fine implement, turning two ten-inch furrows from three to eight inches deep, and combining lightness of draught with thoroughness of work. Here are to be found a fine collection of 'iron age' cultivators and seed drills, both for farm and garden. A 'Farmer's favourite' grain drill is shown with turnip attachment, in which the gearing for grain is thoroughly protected. Messrs. Reid and Gray, whose local'agent is Mr. T. Slade, have . also a fine collection, -and show the usual style of double-furrow plough, so well aud widely known, also a single-lever plough, fitted with seat, in which the firm is doing u large trade in the South Island. A line collection of harrows is also shown, and as agents for the Deering harvester, the firm show a six-feet pony binder, worked by two horses with ease, for as this machine is fitted with roller and and ball bearings, the draught is very light. Mowing machines are also shown, fitted in the same manner. No. 6 stand, which is occupied by Massey, Harris, and Co., the local agent being Mr. W._ T. Davidge, are again to the fore with their celebrated reapers and binders, and a splendid exhibition ot cultivators, hay rakes, _ ploughs, and general agricultural implements, The Walter A. Wood Co. as usual have a good display, including a cyclone mower and one of Newton's patent dehornetu The local agent of this company, Mr. T. Slade, of Hamilton East, occupies stand No. 10, with buggies, etc., of his own manufacture, which as purely local manufacture are well worth inspection, and will bear comparison with the imported article. Messrs. Cousins and Aitkin show their usually fine class of work in the buggy department, and Elder Bros., of Auckland and Tuakau,. show a good selection of implements, manufactured by themselves. Their New Zealand diamond clipper plough, known as the Drury gorse and tea-tree root cutter, is a light and strong implement, which can be drawn by two horses, but is • sufficiently strong to permit of four or five being used. Mr. J. E. Hammond, of Hamilton West, the local agent for Reynolds and Co., shows a fine assortmentof bicycles. Kempthorne, Prosser, and Co. have their usual display of manures, dairy, and veterinary sundries, also disinfectants, poisoned wheat, and insecticide. The firm is this season showing two samples of phosphates, ' B' and ' C,' which are cheap and likely to be in demand by farmers who prefer a manure of less solubility than high grade' supers.' The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Company show general farming requirements.
