SALS OF KAURI TIMBER.

At the Lands Office yesterday, Mr. Mueller, Grown Lands commissioner, offered for sale the timber in the Waitawheta forest, Ohinemuri, in the Te Aroha surrey district, blocks VI., VII., and X. The estimated quantity of timber in the forest is 17,600,000 feet, and the upset price was fixed at £8750, the conditions being one- fourth cash at sale, one-fourth Ist January, 1893, one fourth Ist January, 1900, and one-fourth (the balance) on the Ist January, 1902, the timber to bo removed within ten years. Mr. Mueller explained that the timber only was offered for gale. It was on goldfields lands and the mining interests must not be interfered with, although every facility would be Riven to the purchaser. There was some competition and from the upset prices advances were made in £25 bids until it was finally passed to the Kauri Timber Company at £9175.
