NEW ZEALAND CYCLING RECORDS
, CHBISrCHDRCH,ApriI3O. At Lancaster Park to-day J. O. SHorland established the New Zealand records for 5, 10, and 25 miles, his times being 11m. 655, 24m, la., and lh. 40s. respectively. ~ The time for the 10 miles beats the: previous best
record by 2m. 18 2-5 s. The time for the 25 miles is 2m. 20s. faster than J. W. Parson's (Melbourne) Australasian 1 record. The weather was perfect for record breaking, Shorland was paced by tandems. -
NEW ZEALAND CRICKET COUNCIL
The New Zealand Cricket Council met at Christchurch on Friday night, the Bth May, to consider the terms offered by the various associations in the colojiy for a visit of the Australian team next season. It was resolved that alternative offers bo made to the Australian eleven for £650 for five matches, based on guarantees from Hawke's Bay, Wellington, Canterbury, Southland, as the takiugs of the New Zealand match, or seven matches on terms offered by different
associations, with a minimum guarantee of £150 for the New Zealand match; that it be a condition that the matches either be played out or that there be three days' play, with the exception of matches at Napier ana Invercargill, which would be limited to two days.
HOLDER BREAKS THE WORLD'S 440 YDS. HURDLE RECORD. At the Amateur Athletic Sports, Napier, on May 9, Holder, of Wanganui, beat the world's amateur record for the 440 yds Hurdles, his tim being 60s. He also won the 100 yds event. Holder's time is Is better than the previous world's record of 61s, held by T. Roberts, of Auckland, and put up by him in the Domain in May of 1895. He (Roberts) also equalled his record at the recent Championship gathering at Christchurch.
