There 'has been a rumour hore that the Premier would contest the Wellington suburbs, seat With Dr. Newman next election. Dr. Newman informs me that no announcement of any kind has been made to the electors, and that ho has no fear as to the result.

Lady politicians hold opposite opinions as regards the claims of the Chinese to residence in New , Zealand, The antiChinese League which held its ordinary meeting last night passed the following resolution On the motion of Mr. Murdoch a vote of thanks was passed to Mrs. Task or " For fcn'e'stand whioh she' took at the Women's Convention against Chinese immigration." Mrs, Llvermora proposed a motion declaring "The statements made by Lady Stout; nt the Women's Convention were indiscreet) and contrary to fact." The motion was seconded by Mr. F. Moore and agreed to.
MR, JUSTICE BUCKLEY. It is reported that there is no improvement in the condition of this learned judge. For a few days his medical attendant thought he was getting better,' but the last bulletin is to the effect that he is not so well.
