BOARD OF EDUCATION.

The adjourned meeting of the Board of Education was held yesterday, there being present: Mr. R. Udy, in the chair, and Messrs. Luke, Woodward, Lambe, Harris, and Wright.

Tenders.— The following tendors were accepted : Additions to Paeroa School, Mr. G. H. James, £353; improvements to teacher's Pukekohe West, Mr. Joseph Dixon, £48 14s; supply of tanks, Mr. A. R. Kirchner; supply of stoves, Mr. John Broad y; supply of painting materials, Messrs. Hill and Pluraraor. The tenders for the removal of the teacher's house at Flat Bush wero deferred for consideration.

Establishment of Schools, etc.—lt was decided to establish a school to accommodate 40 children atTe Rau-a-Moa(l'irongia), and to grant the request of the settlers of Waiheke Island for an itinerant teacher, the committee to be consulted on the proposed step. The request from Upper Wailetooa was declined, in accordance with the inspector's report.

Buildings.— following applications for buildings and extensions wero granted ; School building at Kimihia, additional class-room at Kuaotunu, additional accommodation for 80 children at Mercury Bay. The applications from Kaikohe, Kohukohu, Pongaknwa, Richmond Road, To Rahu, Wade, Driving Creek, and Whakatanewere deferred.

School Committee Elections.—A notification was receivod from the i'onsonby School Committee to the effect that in their opinion the recent election of the committee bad been conducted in accordance with the Act. Mr. Udy did not consider the roply satisfactory, as there were no reasons for the opinion staled, and on his motion it was decided to refer the matter back to the chairman (Mr. Courtney), for further information, bofore the Board could seo fit to discuss the subject. A protest was received from Mi\~ H. R. Shortland against the recent election of a school committee at Remuera, who contended that tho mode of voting adopted by himself camo within the meaning of tho Schools Committees Act, 1894, sections 6 and 10. Mr. J. M. Lennox, chairman, had thrown out these votes, in all over 100, and he asked the Board whether these householders were to bo thus deprived of their votes? The Secretary stated that Mr. Shortland's protest had been submitted to the chairman of the meeting of householders, who had replied to the Board to the effect that the meeting had bwn conducted in accordance with the Board's circulars. It was decided to uphold the notion of the chairman of the meeting. Miscellaneous.—A number of applications for employment and removal, and grants for repairs, etc., were also dealt with, together with certain reports and correspondence relating to teachers.

The Kauri Timber Company have bought the bulk of the dead timber in Puhipuhi. and it is expected they will erect a sawmill there. Foote Brothers have bought Campbell's bush, and the timber industry is certain to be pretty active during the cominp year.--[Own Correspondent.]
