AUCKLAND HARBOUR BOARD.

An ordinary meeting 'of the Harbour Board was held yesterday afternoon. Present:

Messrs. G. S. Kissling (chairman), j. J. Holland (Mayor), R. Farrell, W. Thorne,. E. Bell, A. E. Devore, W. Qunson, J. J. Craig, W. J. Napier, J, T. Julian, and M. Niccol.

Information.— was decided to supply information regarding the regulations and charges at this port, to the Marine Board of Mersey, Tasmania. ' Wharf Dues.—The secretary of the Tiraaru Harbour Board asked tin Board for its views-concerning the Government charge of 2J per cent, for collection of wharfage dues. The Timaru Board considered the charge excessive, and wished to know, if a move was made in the matter, whether the Auckland Board would co-operate. It was decided to reply that the Board collects its own wharfage dues. Birkenhead Wharf.— Town Clerk of Birkenhead stated that about half a chain of the pitching; by the Birkenhead Wharf was in urgent need of repair. Referred to Works and Tariff Committee. Takapuna BEAOH.-Mr. Edwin Harrow drew the attention of the Board to the threatened pollution of Takapuna Beach by drains which were being laid from newlyerected houses adjacent to the beach, and asking the Board to take prompt measures in the matter, so as to prevent contamination. Referred to the Works and Tariff Committee, the Harbourmaster to report to the com-

mictee. The WARSiiiP3.-CaptaiQ F. W. Fisher, of H.M.S. Orlando, wrote asking for the use of Calliope Dock as soon after May 25 as possible. Notices to Mariners. — Notices to mariners were received from the Government of Bengal and the Department of Ports and Harbours, Brisbane. Reports.—The recommendations of the Works and Tariff Committee, re use of shear legs at Hobaon-streefc Wharf, enlargement of torpedo depot, dredging, Lucas Creek, offices at Calliope Dock, outer dolphin at Calliope Dock, Mocking of wharves, crane at Northcote Wharf, Quay-street Jetty No. 3, were all agreed to; also the recommendations of the Finance and Legal Committee re accounts, removing of sand, eta., at Northcote; enlargement of torpedo depot, Mr. W. S. Laurie's request for compensation, Mr. J. Stewart's application for allotment for eleofcric workshops, Gas Company for strip of laud in Customs-street, advertising

on wharves, by-laws re whistling of steamers at wharves and mooring, and lighting of timber rafts in the harbour. Naval Shkd.—The Town Clerk, Devonnotified the Board that a cheque for £30 in payment for the shed on the Naval Reserve at Devonport had been forwarded to Captain Casement, of H.M.s. Rapid, at Lyttelton. Pilot Service.—The harbour mastei forwarded specifications for supplying a steamer for the pilot service, which were referred to the finance and Legal Committee. Lease, —An application from Messrs. C. and W. Bailey for part of allotment No. 68 Customs-street West, at present vacant, was granted. Tenders.— for cleaning and painting of buoys and beacons were received as follows, the estimate of the foreman of Works being £30 :-T. B. O'Connor, £33; T. Garnaut, £45 10a; D. Gouk, £27 10s. Mr. Gouk's tender was accepted. Supplies.—The specifications of the Foreman of Works for the supply of coal and ship chandlery to the Board, were referred to the Works and Tariff Committee. Dredging.— was decided to extend the

contract of T. B. O'Connor for dredging, towing, and discharging of silt punts to December next, when the whole question is to be considered.
