MR. WARD AT NEW PLYMOUTH.

New Plymouth, Tuesday. Mr. Ward, the Colonial Treasurer, addressed a large meeting to-night. He said ho might have made mistakes, but he had done nothing that would tarnish his honour in politics. He then proceeded to make a long reply to Sir R. Stout's speech, ann defended the banking and general polioy of the Government. Referring to the customH lie said that of the total increase of £70,000 the new tariff was responsible for only £38,000. He concluded by stating that ha was in favour of State Firs Insurance, and predicting that New Zsaland was on the eve of great prosperaity in gold wining. A vote of thanks and confidence in the Government! was carried by 4 large majority.
