The Rev. James Hill is at present on a visit to the Thames.
Dr. Walker returned from the South by the Takapuna on Saturday night. Last week Mr. and Mrs. Lissaman, of Rangiora, celebrated their golden wedding with a family party. It is stated that Mi'. Neville Nicholson will be a candidate for the Western Maori electorate at next election.
Mr. Duncan, chief inspector of machinery, is in Auckland at present) on business connected with his department. Mr. Watson, President of the Bank of New Zealand, and Mrs. Watson returned from Rotorua on Saturday, and proceed to Wellington to-day. Judge H. Dunbar Johnson, of the Native Lands Court, arrived from Wellington by the Takapuna on Saturday night, and proceeds to the Waikato, to hold a Court at Otorohanga. Last week Mr. J. A. Bailey, eldest son of Mr. W. Bailoy, of Taonui, was married to Miss M. A. Parker, second daughter of Mr. C. Parker, of Paraekaretu. The bride was attended by her two sisters, and Mr. S. Bailey acted as beat man. The party, to the number of 25, afterwards eat down to a well-appointed wedding breakfast, at which the health of the bride and bridegroom was enthusiastically honoured. Mr. P. G. Didsbury, a son of the late Government printer, who left Wellington for West Australia by the Mararoa on Friday, was entertained at supper at the Trocadero the previous ovening. Mr. G. ache occupied the chair. Mr. F. Pownall, in the name of the company, presented Mr. Didsbury with a very handsome solid silver matchbox, suitably engraved. Ab Caversham on Monday evening Mrs, MeChesney, of Caversham, was presented by Mr. Mackenzie, on behalf of a number of friends, with a purse of sovereigns, on the eve of her departure for South InverDargill, whither Constable MeChesney has been transferred. Mr. Thomson returned thanks on her behalf, and a very pleasant evening was brought to a close by singing, "Auld Lang Syne."
