BOARD EDUCATION.
The ordinary meeting of the above Board was held yesterday, there being present:— Mr. Udy in the chair (under protest), and Messrs. Muir, Luke, Lamhe, Harris, Woodward, and Wright
Chairman's Report.— report showed that the Board's report for 1896, revißod regulations of Board, report of Chief Inspector of Schools for 1895, and Mr. Petrio's manual of suggestions for the guidance of teachers has been issued to teachers. The committees of the following districts have been requested to forward their school fund accounts for audit aa required by law: Avondale, Lake, Mangawai, Maneronui, ' Nphinepouri, Ohnupo, Opua, Tnirua, Aroha (G.F. Tuakau, Wainu, North River, Whangaroa North. The annual examination of pupil teachers and candidates for employment will be held on Tuesday, June 30,1896, anil the following days. Resignations have been received from Mrs. J. Simpson, head teacher, Bayfield School, Miss J. McDonald, relieving teacher, Northcote, and Miss G. E. Watkins, junior assistant, Devonport School. Teachers have been located as follows Mr. J. Grierson, relieving teacher, to temporary charge of Horahora School; Mr. R. J. Hamilton, A., assistant master, Ponsonby School; Mr. Herbert J. Cousins, relieving teacher, Richmond Road; Mr. T. R. Jones, relieving teacher, to temporary charge of Raipnra Flats School, in absence of teacher; Mr. M. Smith, relieving teacher to temporary charge of Ctonga East in absence of teacher; Miss W. L. Francis, teacher, Brooklyn; Miss Laura A. Roberts, second assistant,, Waihi; Mies M. G. Harris, relieving teacher, Newton West; Miss L. Vellauoweth, substitute assistant, Karangahake, in absence of assistant; Miss If. I;. Gilman (P.T.), from Onehunga to. Woiokarakn; Miss E, Rae (P.T.), from Newmarket to Grafton Road ; Miss L. Gillibrand (P.T.), from Grafton Road to Turua; Miss A. G. I'lumley (P.T.), from Otahuhu to Mangere; Mrs. Warner, substitute sewing teacher Kohukohu, for three months; Mrs. Bond, sewing teacher, Dacres; Mrs. A. M. Wood, sewing teacher, Ti Point; Miss I. G. Udy (ex-P.T.) from Panmure to East Tatnaki, temporarily in absence of assistant; Mis? Etnel M. Harper, teacher, Waitetuna ; Miss M. McDonald, to Waiokaraka; Miss C. K. I). Dinneen, to Ponsonby; Miss Annie S. Camming to Napier-street; Miss M. J. Elliott, to Cambridge; Miss T. E. Salaries of head teachers for current quarter have been adjusted according to *calo prescribed by the regulations. The report, which contained a number of minor details, was adopted as read, Tiuchkks' Sklkction C.'OMMITI'EK.-The report of this committee recommended a number of appointments to be authorised by the Board. That applications for the position of head master of the Bayfield School should be invited by advertisement from teachere classified 1)1 or higher, who have been two years or more in their present, position. Your committee have informed the late chairman of the Whangapoua School committee that the power to suspend the teacher rests with the committee alone, nnd have instructed the teacher to forward an immediate explanation of his conduct. The report was adopted. Su.si'K.Nsiox ok Teachers.— Considerable correspondence relative to the suspension of teachers at Hoiahora and Wiiangapoua. Both suspensions wero referred back to the cqjmnittees for further consideration. Rjiuoioi's KnncaTiON.—Mr. Speight interviewed tho Board on behalf of the Anglican Congress, nnkinvr them to attend the meeting of that body in the evening (Wednesday), when a discussion re the religious education of children in public schools would take place, in which the members of the Board would be invited to participate. Mr. Speight was thanked for his invitation, and then withdrew.
School Ei.kctiohs.—Disputed elections of school committees at Cabbage Bay, Gordon, Huntly, Ngunguru, Papuroa, Ponsonby, and Romuera were rofcrrod buck to the committees for explanation. The committees of Dacre's, Fnirburn's Road, Lake, Mataliuru, Piikaru, and Patorangi suggested the names of gentle mon who were proposed to take office on their committees which were not completo, The names wore read and agreed to. It was also notified that second meetings were required for eleven districts. Establishment of Schools.—lt was decided to erect two half-time schools at, Maneatu. The request from Mangawai for school books was declined. The meeting was then adjourned until Wednesday noxt.
