BRUNNERTON RELIEF FUND.

A telegram was receive'! by the Mayor from the Mayor of Invereargill asking if arrangement? had been made to defray the expenses of delegates coming to the conference. The telegram was referred to the Premier, and the latter minuted it"l do not think expenses should be defrayed out of the Brunner mine fund."

Bronnerton, Wednesday. The Contral Relief Committee liavo appointed Mr. O'Regiin, M.H.R., to represent them at the Wellington Conference, the Mayor being unable to go. If Mr. O'Regan cannot attend, Mr. Thos. Bland will be the delegate. The committee strongly favour the Public Trustee having charge of tiio funds, but would not tie tho hands of the delegate in the matter. It was unanimously resolved that if independent trustees are formed they should ouly be allowed to invest the monoy in Government securities,

MEETING OP THIS AUCKLAND COMMITTEE. A meeting of the Auckland committee of the Brunnorton relief fund was held yesterday afternoon, intheMayor's room, Municipal Buildings, the Mayor (Mr. J. J. Holland) presiding. There were also present .'—Hon. W. Swauson, Messrs. W. Crowther, M.H.R., J. H. Upton, L. Ehrenfried, R. T. Michaels, and W. J. Crow ther, hon. secretary. The Mayor read the circular (already published) sent by the Premier, inviting the Auckland committee to appoint a delegate to u Conference which ha had convened of representatives of looal bodies at Wellington on the 14th instant, to decido how tho fund shall be vested, and on what principles reliof should bo administered. His Worship stated that the committee had'already given its adhesion to tho recommendations of the Mayors of Wellington and Dunedin and their looal committees, that the matter should bo relegated for decision to the Municipal Conference of local bodies to be held in Wellington in July. A general discussion took place, in which there was a consensus of opiniou that tho question oould be best dealt with at the Munloipal Conference, inasmuoh as there would be a good attendance of representatives from all parts of the colony, and that the Parliament would be in session, which would give more available means for having the fund satisfactorily invested. Mr. Upton moved that the following telegram be despatched to the Mayors of Wei* lington and Dunedin (as chairmen of local committees):—"ls it your intention to fall in with the suggestion of the Premier re a conference to be held in Wellington on the 14th instant, or to adhere to the arrangement previously agreed on, that the matter should be deMt with at tl)o Municipal Conference to bo held in July In the meantime, we have declined till we hear from your committees." The resolution was carried. This concluded the business. The Mayor stated that on receipt of a reply to the tolegruro, he would convene another meeting of the committee. He announced that the amount banked was £1334 os.
