THE GOLDFIELDS.

(by. teleqbaph.—ow.v correspondents.] Thames, Monday. Shabbilwket. — Cambria, sellers Is 6d, buyers Iβ 4d; Cardigan, sellers, Is 10d, buyers Iβ Cd; Golden Point, buyers Is 6d; Hazolbank, sales 3s Sd; May* Queen Extonded, buyers 4sd; Moanataiari, sales 12k, sellers 12s 6d; New Whau, sales 10d, Rollers Is, buyers 10d ; Albumin, buyers 5s Cd ; Shoridun, buyers 6d ; Victoria, sellers 3s Eld, buyors 3s 0.1. Tiiames-Haubaki.— Tho tender of U. Cotty and party at £3 16s per foot has been accepted for enlarging the Queon of Boauty shafb for a depth of 275 feet. Tho contractors will probably commence operations '■> Thi!""!ay nexb.

FαV: TOirp, SrKCiAL Claim.—Mr. J. W. /. r alkcr, the owner of this special claim, vhich is situated on the Thames foreshoro fronting Graharastown, todaj put on a small staff of minors to sink a prospecting slmfb on the foreshore directly opposite tho Kuranui battery. The sizo of the now shaft is to be 10 feeb by 4 feet within the limber.

Parkoa, Monday. Talisman.—A delay has occurred in the filling of the roasting kilns owing to ono of the cradlo wires of the Aerial tramway snapping. This, together with the middle section of the line, is being repaired, and when completed the kilns will be filled. Thore is no change to report in the mine, stoping and driving being in progress, while it Is also intended to commence tho low level further down tho hill, thus Affording an additional lOOfeebof backs.

Ivanhoe.—The contractors, Williams and party, have finished tho contracb allotted to them, the crosscub being now in a distance of 292 feet. They are, however, continuing tho crosscut with a view to intersecting the lodo, which may be expected .id any tlmo. The country is a little easier for driving. Excelsior.—Smith unci party have also finished tho contract for driving 100 feot in this mine, but it has not yet been decided whether a frosh contracb will be let.

Imperial.— In tho United section the low levol is in over 300 feet, so that when the faco has been advanced another 80 feet the point where- tho lode i> expected to be met with should bo reached. The country being penetrated is a littlo harder than it wan, though ill is not of an unfavourable description. Sterling.-The new lodo recently intersected has been driven upon for a length of about 20 feet, and it still yields most encouraging projpectJ. Tho roof is roally only about eighteen inches in thickness, and consequently is nob nearly so largo as was at first represented, the miscalculation bavin;;, ib appears, been made through the peculiar formation ef the country rock enca?ing it, tho latter being heavily mineralised, and containing rubbly quartz. Notwithstanding the fact, however, that tho reef is only eighteen inchos in width instead of seren feeb, the quartz carries a high percentage of the precious metal, as two out of three samples broken out in my preseuce gave excellent prospects whon subjected to mortar test 9, tho tails of gold in the two instances leaving no doubt as to the bullion-producing capabilities of the ore body. The reef is lying very flat, bub much cannob ycb be eaid as to tho raluo of the discovery until more work has been done upon ib, and the permanency of tho ore shoot) proved. It is to bo hoped, howevor, thab operations here will prove to be remunerative, as such a result would bo an incentive to further exploration on tho western side of the range, where only looso lots have, up to the time of the Sterling discovory, been found.

TE PUKE. [FROM OCR OWB CORRL'HPOXDBN'T.] Fleming's Freehold. —Thenewreef on tho fern spur has been cub into for a distance of 54 fec-t, and no sign yeb of tho hanging wall, the quartz is of a loose, rubbly nature, and still continues to prospect well in the dish. In the face of the drive tho reef is very loose and disturbed, being closo to the surface, so that the work of driving through it was discontinued, as ib began to run and get dangerous. A crosscut has been started about 15 teeb from the face of the drive, whero the besfc gold was obtained, so as to try and find where it comes from. All through the length of this great reef ib prospects well in the dish, and in places gives good prospects by pounding in tho mortar. Mr. George Tilsley, the manager of the mine, has gone to the Upper Thames to consult with Mr. Flemine as to putting in a low level to cut the reef in the solid country, and ho is conndenb of good results, as the gold undoubtedly improves as it goes down. Mr. 11. P. Barry, manager of the Waihi mine, who visited fche new reef a few weeks ago, and took samples from it all along the drive, has roported thab the result of his assays of the samples tested was an ounce to the ton. At the time of Mr. Barry's visib the reef had been cub into over forty feeb, and the samples were taken from different places all along the drive. Te Pcike and Hose.— These two claims j will probably bo amalgamated, as an offer i has been received from C'oolgardie people to find the necessary capital to prospect and develop them. They have bnen inspected and reported on as well worth having a few hundred pounds spenb on them to prove them, m some of the stone obtained on the surface was of ft very promising description. Ladt JoOEIiYK.—A drive is being pub through tha spur to cuts the big reef which is over 30 feeb through, and from which good prospects have been obtained. The drivo is going through an excellent cla«? of sandstone, and the owners are very sanguine thab bho reef, when cub3o toeborso below bhe surface, will prove much better than evon on the surface.

(/'OOSTV pßOsr-PCToiw.— The two county prospectors &i To Puko hare been a way out) towards Obine Wainuku, end report getting excellent prospects of gold in the creeks. They also found a three-feet reef, but it did not look promising enough to do mnch on,

Te Puna.— The prospectors aro still hnrd at work driving to find the reof from which so much loose gold is shed. Mr. William McLean, bo well known us a prospector ab Coromandel and the Upper Thames and Te Aroha, has been placed in charge of operations, and from what lie ha* seen of the country, and the prospects of gold he c.in got, is rery sanguine 01 quickly being; on something good. Mr. MuLoan reckons that if a reef is got showing irood gold thoro will be a very extensive field opened up in this part of the district, as there is an immense area of virgin And unpro.«|)oct>ed ground. Kaimai.—The prospector is driving in very kindly sandstone, and has cut a reef about two feet through, and is now preparfng to open onb on it. The stono ho far is of a rather flinty description, but some portions of ib look good enough for anything. The country is very similar to that at Te Puna, and it is endenfc the same run of country extends all through from Tβ Puna to the main Kaimai range, a distanceof come six or eight miles.

Katikati.—Work is being actively prosecuted on the Elizi elftitn taken ap by Messrs. Smith and Tilsley, nnd tho good prospects obtained at first continue to improre »s work is carried on. The stringers not only prospect! and pound well, bub also show visible gold.
