When in tho Like district the Countess will lecture upon Theosophy, and on the return journey during tho weok she will lecture in Waikato. An old man named Harry Spooner, who served with tho British forces in the New Zealand war, was drowned ac Croki, Now South Wales, on March 8, through falling in the river, When the body was found one arm was around a pile of tho wharf, as if the poor old fellow had made an effort to pull himself up, but had failed. A presentation to Mr. H. R. 11. Oswin, who is about to be married, and who has held various offices in tho Selwyn Football Club, Wellington, from tho year it was established, was made last week. Mr. J. Earle, on behalf of the members, made the presentation, which consisted of a handsome tea and coffee servico, and the health of the bride and bridegroom was afterwards toasted. Canon Calder, whose health had shown no signs of improvement during the past week, rallied sufficiently to take part in the Easter services yesterday. During his absence in England the Rev. E. M. Cowio, B.A. (tho eldest son of tho Primate), who has had considerable experience in parish work both in England and Auckland, will take chargo of All Saints' parish.
