JUDGE'S BAY REGATTA.

The annual Judge's Bay Regatta takes place this afternoon, and the committee have been working most energetically to make the affair as successful as possible. Owing to the courtesy of Mr. W. W. Philson, local manager of the Colonial Sugar Refining Company, the fine steamer Fiona has been placed at the disposal of the committee as flagship, and as she is a roomy and comfortable vessel, there should be an absence of overcrowding. Hunter's Artillery Band will discourse musical selections on the flagship duriugthe alternoon, and afternoon tea will be dispensed by the committee and their friends. The weather promises to be fine, and if there is anything like a breeze some keen contests may be anticipated. The steamer Waitoa leaves the man-of-war steps for the flagship at 1 p.m., 1.30 p.m., 2 p.m., and 2.30 p.m., and as required afterwards. There are five sailing and seven rowing events. Probably the greatest amount of iuterest will attach to the race for yachts of 7-rating and under, in which the Moana, built by Logan Brothers, and the Ida, built by Bailey Brothers, will meet for the first time in a public contest; and in the race for yachts of 2J-rating and under, in which the Mahaki, Rarere, Zinita, and Daisy _ will again compete. Mr. J. T. Bell has kindly lent his oil launch to follow the rowing races. Tho Kotiro has entered for the race for 24 raters htslf-deoked centreboard boats. Our aquatic contributor, "Lynx," supplies the following notes .and anticipations of the various events

Yachts, 7 rating and under: The Halcyon being over the rating, will not be a starter. Judging from the manner in which the boats have been acquitting themselves since the Ponsonby Regatta, I shall expect them to finish: Moaua, 1; Ida, 2; Aorere, 3. Should there bo auything like a boil over, the Lady Wilma ought to get a place. Yachts, 2J-rating and under: This should result—Mahaki, 1; Rariri, 2; Zinita, 2. The match has a large time allowance, and has a chance id tlio contest, and should there be a very strong breeze the Daisy will have a good show.

Cruisers Race : This being a handicap it is hard to say which boat will win, but I rather fancy Corinna, 1: 'Cynisca, 2; Mahoe, 3. The Kahawai ought also to be taken into account,_ as if the handicap she receives is auything like iu her favour sho ought to have a good onance in the race. Yachts and Fishing Boats, 4-rating and under: The Cooee and Dolphin ought to fight it out, and should finish in that order. Yachts and Fishing Boats, 2J-rating and under: Venice, I; Manola, 2. Stump Outriggers, handicap: This, I think, rests between A. McHardy and J. M. Brigham, jun. Still, as the handicaps are uot announced, there is no telling whether A. Dacre should not be considered. However, I think the genial captain of St. George's should be first past the winning-post. Maiden Gigs (open): Crews from .North Shore, West End, and Waitemata-City have entered for this event. No. 2in the West End crew has had to go away from town, which has put them out a bit. Still, thev have a good emergency man, and I think ought to get home first. Maiden Gigs (under 10.it): There are only two entries for this event—West End and North Shore. The latter have a new man in, and the Ponsonby crew are the same which wero put down at the Ponsonby Regatta. Therefore North Shore should win again. Senior Gigs: Auckland, St. George's, and Waitemata-City hare each a crew. It is a very open race, but I think St. George's are the best men, and should win. Junior Gigs (under 10at): There aro only two_ entries, both from St. George's, and Whitlov's crew should be first in.

Junior Gigs (opeu) : West End, St. George's, and North Shore, each send a crew, and St. George's should win. though the West End maiden crew, who have, entered, should push them close.
