ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting of the Comstock Gold Mining Company was held yesterday at (he office of Me. McDonald, Scott, Mr, J, J. Dizop presided. PIREOTQRS' BBPORT. Operations In the Cornstock section continue at a low level, with a view lp develop Ilia Monowai reef at a lower level than where found above. Driving has. been undertaken on the reef in the Golden Crown sec'ion, anil gratifying results have been obtained. The mine manager* report furnishes all details, Two directors, Messrs, J. J. McDonald, Auditor, Auckland, 21st Japuavy, 1898, WINK MANAOHk's REPORT, The mine manager's report was as follows Thames, January 18, 18911. —In the earlier part of the yew a large amount of surface prospecting was done on th* northern boundary under the supervision of Mr, John Carter. When I took charge In July last I commenced trenching for the Mon»wat lode, and after a considerable amount of work I succeeded in unearthing a reef. On opening it up I was cumin ed it was the Monowai, as ft possessed the same strike and underlie.. The lode was fully four feet .in thickness, and' contained ore of a kindly nature, but as the country was very broken I derided to put in a level about 800 feet south of the point of intersection on the surface, ' and ' have extended the level 130 feet through a solid class of country. The reef should be' to hand . in ■. about another 30 feet. Golden Crown section; In December last \ started two men driving on • the Golden Crown lode. Whin operations were com-

menced the reef was split up, but I am pleased to state that it {9 now a ct'ippict lode two feet si* inches in thickness. The fuoLwall portion contains some henry mineralised ore, a sample of which as<ayod£l2 Is Od per ton.—A. HOWE, manager.
