Victoria.—Ten pounds of plokod stone have been eared, Yesterdny the lode at too. 1 level was being stripped preparatory to another breaking down. The oountry and mineral indications are all that could be desired for the presence of gold. May Qdkkn.—Steady progress continues to be made with the various works in the different sections. An importune development is now in hand oh Hayes' leader at the No. 6 level of the Saxon shaft. Levels are being extonded east and west upon the course of the lode, with the object of opening up ft block on this rioh lead. Between this and No, 5 level, although the vein is nob of very great magnitude, it nevertheless shows gold when broken down, and it is the intention to connect this by a rise to the No. 5 levol. This work will be proceed with when the drive on the oastern trend of the lode has been sufficiently advanced. The effecting of this connection will be the means of inducing & good current of air to pass through the levels, and otherwise facilitate the systematic development of the lode, tho extent of which is not) as yet ascertainable. The works 011 the No. 4 and north-west lodes ab the No. 4 level Queen of May section oontinue to turn out a good supply of general crushing material, whilst a few pounds of picked atone are occasionally coming to hand .from the stopes on both lodes. The drive upon the course of No. 4 west of the main crosscut, although looking well, has not shown any gold of late. It may, however, improve as the level advances, inasmuch as the section of country being entered Upon Is of a splendid description. Pakroa, Friday. Woodstock.—The following tenders were received to-day for the undermentioned works Driving 50 feet nt> No. 2 level: Richards and party, £3 17s 8d per foot; O'Neill and party, £3 12s 6d; W. R. Mitchell, £3 10a; Hungerford and party, £2 18s, accepted. Driving -50 feet at No. 3 level: W, R. Mitchell, £3 15s per foot: Richards and Williamson, £3 9s 6d per foot, accepted. Richards, £2 7s per foot;; Richards and Williamson, £1 178 6d; W. Hide, £1 i J, Dunn, 19s; A. Hanlon, 17s 6d, accepted. Driving 100 feeb at No. 2 level crosscut: W. R. Mitchell, £115s per foot; G. Adams, £1 8s; Richards and Williamson, £1 4s 6d; N. R. MoDonnell, £1 3s 9d; H. E. Ayrea, 189; J, Dunn, 17s Gd, accepted. All those levels will be in active operation on Monday, the Nos, 4 and 5 being already in about 20 feet each, whilo the No. 2 level crosscut is to be extended in the direction of the main Woodstock lodo, whioh is west of all other known bodies of ore in the mine, and upon which no work has yet been done by the company. The lode varies in thicknoss from eight to 20 inches and it may be of interest to know that the lode hits already been proved, i\ considerable tonnage of ore having been broken out from it by the tributers, the average return being £4 per ton. The lode extends right through the Company's ground, so that there will be a largo block of ground here to work out. With regard to the No. 2 crosscut ib is expected that several other lodes will be intersected in the progress of the working, the full distance to drive before the lode is met with being 300 feet. In respect of the other works, Mr. T. Brown has commenced with a strong staff of men to effect ail tho neces-< enry repairs to the dam, while a start has also been made to erect tho hoppers and serial tramway, which will, when completed, oonnecb the No. 4 level with the horse grade section of the tramway, The battery is still kept running full time, and I understand this state of affairs will exist until it is found necessary to remove it in order to oxpedito the erection of tho mill. In the mine a leading stope is now being carried along over the intermediate level on Shepherd's lode, and from here some high grade character of ore is being won, the assay valuo of the quartz running as high as from £12 to £20 per ton.
