THE TARANAKI PETROLEUM WORKS.
[BV TELEGRAPH.—OWN correspondent.] New Plymooth, Thursday. The Petroleum Company pumped 140 gallons of pure oil this morning as a trial, which was most successful, The supply of oil is increasing. Orders for oil are being received, and the company will soon be in a position to execute such orders regularly. The petroleum gas is in such a large quantity that ib will bo Used for all future boring operations instead of coal, thus effecting a large saving. There is said to be sufficient gas in one bore to light up New Plymouth three times over. Tho directors oxpross themselves assured that tho present bore will be a highly remunerative Ono. Tho prospects are most encouraging. Mr. Fair, oil expert, Will arrive to-mor-row from Sydney, and take charge of tho works.
