HOSPITAL AND CHARITABLE AID BOARD.

The usual meeting of the Hospital and Charitable Aid Board was held yesterday afternoon in the offices, High-street, Mr. J,' Bollard in the chair. There were also present: Messrs. J. Swales, J. Savage, W. B. White, J. M. Lennox, J. Stichbury, C. C. Fleming, and A. Bruce.

Oct • patients.— Hooper reported treating 85 new cases during December, as well as 90 old cases. The average daily attendance of patients was set down at 13, and the average daily visits at 5. During the same period 487 prescriptions had been compounded. There was one death and that of a child aged ten months from tubercular meningitis. Thames Charitable Aid Board.—A letter from the secretary of the Thames Board declining to be responsible for a patient in the Hospital suffering from consumption, belonging to the Thames, and asking that be might) be sent back, was referred to the House Committee.

Charitable AiDCoMMiTrKE.-TheCharit-able Aid Committee's report was adopted and several old women were admitted to the Home. The case of an old woman came up for decision who had been previously convicted of drunkenness,, etc., several times. Mr. Lennox was of opinion that such cases should not be admitted with respectable women. Mr. White suggested there should bo a reformatory. When brought in to the Board the woman presented a most helpless appearance, and it was decided to admit her for one month on trial.

House Committee.— House Committee recommended. that certain repairs bo executed in the kitchen. The recommendations were adopted, certain of the repairs to be subject to the appro*al of the Board's architect.

Leave of Absence.—Leave of absence was granted to Dr. Lewis for two weeks in order to allow him to attend the Intercolonial Congress at Dunedin. The above was subject to the approval of the honorary staff.

Finance. — The statement of monthly receipts and disbursements for December 31ab showed the latter to have been £2151 2s lOcUnd the receipts less by £294 1& 7d, which .amount was 1 shown as overdrawn. The balance of local bodies' contributions due' at same date was £2601 3s, of which £291 8s was paid. Hospital Patients.—The house surgeon reported the admissions during the fortnight ending January 18, to have been 63—an exceptional number. Of these 13 were typhoid cases. The number of patients remaining at date was 112—76 males and 36 females.

Committee Meetings.—Mr. Stichbury moved a resolution standing in bis name, "That the Costley Home Committee should meet monthly, instead of fortnightly, as at present," bun on being pub to the meeting it was lost.
