RAID ON NAPIER BAKERS' SHOPS.
[bt telegraph.—press association.] Napier, Monday. As ft result of the recont police raid on the bakers' shops all tho local bakers appeared at the Magistrate's Court this morning to answer charges of selling short- weight bread. Counsel for the defence proved that the full margin had been allowed for evaporation in baking, but the magistrate ruled that under clause 7 of the Adulteration Prevention Act, 1895, bread must bo of full weight ab the time of sale. The following were fined £1 and costs, the minimum penalty:—W. H. Carter, S. Flyger, Fortune and Black, Glassford and Heron, W. Robertson, and Henry Fisher. A further charge against each of the above for not carrying weights and scales on their bakers' carts was adjourned till noxb Monday.
