ELECTRIC TRAMCARS.

At the regular meeting of the Parnell Borough Council, held lasb night, the Finance and Legal Committeo brought up their report of the conference they had had with Mr. James Stewart, C.E., relative to the taking of a system of electric tramcars through the borough. The resolution passed by the committee was as follows :—" That the committee, having hoard an exhaustive report from Mr. James Stewart, C.E., recommends the Council to assist in the proposal to bring the tramways through the borough, subject to an equitable lease." The Mayor (Mr. G. S. Kissling), in moving the adoption of the commibtee's report, said they had gone fully into the matter with Mr. Stewart, and they thought ib would be to the advantage of the borough to have the trams come through it. Mr. Page : That does nob bind us to anything. The Mayor : No. It only indicates that we are willing to join in allowing the scheme to be carried out.

Mr. Wright seconded the motion for the adoption of the report. Mr. Page said he had been informed by a person who professed to know that this system of overhead wires was condemned in America owing to the danger of wires breaking. Ho could not speak of his own knowledge, but he was informed that the underground wire system was more costly owing to the loss of power. Nodoubb they would have to adopt the same scheme as the city. The Mayor said no doubb the city authorities would see that they had value for their money. He did not pretend to be an expert in regard to electricity, but he thought they would be unwise to stand in the way of a scheme for bringing tram cars through the borough. The motion was then pub and carried unanimously.
