A north-easb gale, accompanied by heavy and frequenb showers of rain, has prevailed here to-day, bub the weather this evening has calmed down somewhat.
Mr. Win. Carpenter, town clerk, is seriously ill again, and is in a very low condition. He was at his office on Saturday last performing his usual duties, but late in the afternoon he commenced to feel unwell, and shortly after returning home was seized with an apoplectic stroke, with the result that he was unconscious for most of the night. To-day he was slightly better, and was able ab times to recognise members of his family and friends, but his condition is still such as to cause groat anxiety.
