TECHNICAL SCHOOL.

The movement in favour of establishing a Technical School or a Technical Classes Association in Auckland is growing in favour with the general public. Mr. J. K. Mackie, the hon. secretary, has already obtained subscriptions to the extent of £35, and there are numerous lists out. The suggestion that the unclaimed balance oE the Taranaki War Relief Fund should be made the nucleus of the fund, on which a Government subsidy of £ for £ up to £500 can be obtained, is also meeting with considerable approval. Among the subscribers to the Taranaki fund in favour of such a course, are the Hon. W. Swanson, M.L.C., Dr. J. L. Campbell (the hon. treasurer), Messrs. G. S. Graham, P. A. Philips and J. Heroo. Steps are being taken to see all the surviving subscribers, and to obtain their assent to such a division, which of course would require legislation to give it effect. Sir Maurice O'Rorke and the city members are prepared to aid in this matter. Ie is contemplated to endeavour to utilise Mr. W. I. Robinson^classes as the nucleus of the Technical Classes, and several gentlemen have offered to give instruction in certain sections gratuitously, and Mr. Thomas Herbert, the well known " artist in wood," has offered the use of his factory at certain periods for practical instruction in woodwork. As an appeal is now being made to the public for subscriptions, it may be well to give the names of the committee, a3 showing the gentlemen who have identified themselves with the movement:—Professor Thomas, Rev. D. Runciuian, Rev. J. Bates, Messrs, J. Blades (chairman City School Committee), R. Stewart, (President Auckland branch New Zealand Educational Institute), I. Robinson, T. Herbert, R.Tudehope.Thos. Tudebope, W. Gray, Geo. Eraser (Ftasor and Sons), H. G. Wade, J. Crosher, R. Fan-ell, J. Trevitnick, Graves Aickin, Jas. Muir, S. Clarke, R. S. Abel, E. Bartley, Skinner, and W. S. Day (of New Zealand Herald).
