SAD DROWNING ACCIDENT.

A GIRL LOSES HER LIFE.

HEROIC CONDUCT OF A LAD. [BT TKLKGRArH.— PRESS ASSOCIATION.] Napier, Thursday. A SAD drowning accident occurred to-day. A party of young ladies wont to a picnic on the banks of the Tutaekuri River. Three of them—Myra Cunningham, Ella McVay, and Ruth Foster—went in to bathe. Soon Miss Cunningham got oub of her depth, and Miss McVay went to her assistance, bub herself gob into trouble. Miss Foster wenb after Miss McVay, but finding thab she was also getting beyond her depth, turned, and just managed to reach the shore in an exhausted condition. Her cries had called the attention of some lads, one of whom, Frank Glover, went to the assistance of the other youug ladies. He managed, at great risk to himself, to Bave Miss McVay, who struggled wildly, and Glover might have been drowned had nob another boy named Fred Smith gone to his assistance. MissCunningham was drowned, i her body not being recovered for an hour land a-hnlf afterwards. She was the (daughter of a farmer and runholder of I Laburn, near Rangiora and Pohui, Hawke's Bay. Glover has been recommended for the Royal Humane Society's medal.
