AUCKLAND HARBOUR BOARD.
The ordinary meeting of the Auckland Harbour Board was held yesterday afternoon. There were present: Messrs, A. H. Nathan (chairman), M. Niccol, J. T. Julian, C.V. Houghton, C. S. Wright, J. McCabe, J. J. Holland, A. E. De?ore, T. Henderson, W. J. Napier, E. W. Alison, and R. Farrdl.
Tides.—The secretary of the Marine Department, Wellington, wrote asking for continuousobservationsofthetimeandheight of high and low water for. the , past two years, if such existed. The observations were for the use, of the Admiralty. Referred to the Harbourmaster for a report. Exemption. — Captain Tilly, of the Mission vessel Southern , Cross forwarded a cheque for dock dues, but renewed his request for exemption. Mr. Niccol moved that the matter be referred to the Finance and Legal Committee. This was carried. Miscellaneous.—The Devonport Town Clerk applied for some old piles for erecting a fence for the bathing place: Referred to the Works and Tariff Committee. Professor F. D. Brown asked permission to erect a boathouse near the old boathouse inside the North Head : Referred to the Works and Tariff Committee. Mr. W. Johnstone wrote protesting against the erection of a bathing shed opposite his property at Devonport: It was decided to defer the consideration of the protest until next meeting. Shear Legs.—The Works " and Tariff Committee recommended that shear legs capable of lifting 50 tons be erected, the Finance and Legal Committee to report upon the question of providing funds for the purpose. The Chairman said the cost would be £1500 or £2000. The Foreman of Works stated the.» shear legs such as those mentioned had only been required twice during the last 22y years. Other members eaid that vessels had to go to Wellington owing to the absence of this machinery, but in answer to this it was urged that the vessels went to Wellington because the work could be done more cheaply there. After further discussion the question was deferred for a month. Finance and Legal Committee.— The following recommendations were submitted: X. That the accounts, as per list in accountbook, be paid. 2. This committee has no further recommendation to make respecting claim by Captain Jones for damage to schooner Queen. 3. That a new lease be granted to Mr. A. Sandford for the remainder of existing term, at same rental, end upon same conditions as in existing lease, new lease to b3 prepared by the Board's solicitors. 4. That Messrs. Donald and Edenborough be informed that in terms of by-law 155 no allowance on storage charges on shocks can be made, 2. That the upset rental for Fish Market be £7 per month. 6. That Mrs. Hodgson be informed that her application for reduction of rent for allotments 1 and 2, Mechanics' Bay, cannot be complied with. With regard to clause 2 it was decided that the offer of Captain Jones' solicitor to accept £42 be accepted. Next Meeting.—Mr. Nathan moved, "That as Tuesday, the 29th instant, will be a public holiday, the next ordinary meeting of the Board be held on Wednesday, she 30th instant, at 2.30 p.m." This was carried.
