A girl named Messer, daughter of a settler near Hawera, was drowned yesterday while bathing in a dam ab Ngaire. The body has nob yeb been found. Napier, Tuesday.
Joseph Foggan, alias Mason, was committed for trial for entering the Kaikora Post Office and stealing therefrom a cheque for £87 and other property. Thomas Bills, who was with Foggan when the burglary was committed, burned Queen's evidence. Donsdin, Tuesday. Ab a meeting of the School Commissioners a return was presented by bhe secretary showing that the total paid over by the Commissioners from the reserve for educational purposes during the last ten years was £136,630 4a Bd. The income from bhe primary edueabion reserves during the past twelve months was larger than for any other like period. A deputation of aboub 30 unemployed waited on the I Mayor and complained of favouritism in the selection of men engaged on the co-operative works on the Otago Central Railway. The Mayor promised to communicate with the Premier, and also consult the City Council to 'see whether some postponed work could not be pub in hand. . : v T
The annual tournament of the New Zealand Bowling Association commenced today when three rounds of the Kink Tournament for which there were 29 entries were completed, and fair progress waa made also with the Pairs Tournament.
