Hazelbakk.Operations in this mine were at a standstill to-day owing to the prevalence of gas in the workings, which was brought about through the very sultry weather now prevailing. Moxowai (Waiomo). —Good progress is being made with the erection of this company's new plant, and another fortnight from now should see it about completed. It is intended to commence carting quartz down to the battery from the Gem section on Monday next, and to commence filling the kiln on the following Wednesday. No work h at present proceeding on the Monowai section, but the Gem section is being well developed, and last week gold was seen freely in the quartz won. MINE MANAGERS' REPORTS. Orlando {January 12). —The winze that was previously referred to has been cleared •ut for a depth of 27 feet, and I think a shift or two more will take us down to the bottom of it. There has been sloping done from both sides of the winze. The reef has been taken out in places for about three feet in width. As soon as the winze is cleared out sinking will be started in the solid. Should the run of gold continue down, this block of ground could be opened up without much cost from the intermediate level. The drive on the hangingwall leader has been extended ! seven feet ; the leader is about six inches in thickness. I expect to meet with au improvement, as there was picked stone got on the level overhead.

Monowai (Waiomo. January 12).—Gem section : When stripping the reef in the slopes on Monday last, close to the Crown boundary, we noticed two leaders striking into the footwaii. One is four inches in thickness, the other two. On Wednesday, when breaking down the reef, we saw dabs of gold in the four-inch leader, and selected lOlbs picked stone from the small leader. As the passes and paddock are full of ore, I have dissontinued work in the slopes for the present, and started driving the No. 1 level crosscut ahead to intersect the black reef which we should cut 25 feet in the footwall of No. 1 reef, and is a parallel reef. The course of this reef is north-west, and should junction with a reef which is cropping out on the surface on the main spur about 50 feet ahead of our present workings, and its course is north-east. I intend to start carting ore to the mid on Monday week, and as soon as there is room for one in the paddock I will extend the level on No. 1 reef into the Crown section.

United (Karangahake, January 12.) The following is the report for the week ending 12th instant: Sine*; starting work on Thursday, the 3rd instant, we have driven 17 feet, which makes the tunnel 214 feet. We are driving through very good country, but it continues hares'. The surveyors are at work, and will hare finished surveying the machine site and water-race on Tuesday, but will not have the plan ready for hearing on the loth. Try Flcke (Kuaotunu, January 13).— There is nothing of importance to report since we started this year. We started work in the mine on Tuesday, and on Wednesday the battery was started crushing. 1 have on hand from the ptates up to date 43 ounces of amalgam. The cyanide plant is fully employed; the fourth vat is full. The winze below No. 3 level has been sunk a further depth of four feet. The lode is opening out, and from present appearance we shall soon have a large reef. At present the prospects on the foot and hanginz-wall portions of the lode are fairly good. The lode in the north drive at No. 3 level is now about two feet thick. All the workings in the Mariposa section are manned, there is no change in the quality of the ore. Vents (Kuaotunu, January 11). —Stoping and driving north on eastern branch at intermediate level with two shifts in each face; fair progress has been made considering there was some cleaning up and timbering to be done before we could start work in faces mentioned. The drive has been extended seven feet. The reef has not yet been broken down, so that I am unable to ray what the value of the ore is, but 1 have every reason to believe that it is good. It is directly under where the last crashing came from. Sloping: The reef has been stripped 9ft at No. 5 stope north, several small pieces of quartz that came away with seme of the shots showed colours of gold and prospected really first-class. The mine is now connected by ground tram with the Great Mercury battery, so that the cost of transmitting the quartz is reduced to a minimum. I hope to be ready ".o crush again shortly, and have every reason to think it will be payable ore. New Moaxataiaki (January 12th). —Since resuming crushings on Thursday morning last, there have been 60 tons of quarts and 172 tons of surface material treated at the battery for the separate yields of 47 ounces and 6 ounces of amalgam. In the mine the usual works have again been started, viz., the extension of the south-east prospecting crosscut on the 150-feet level; driving towards the big slide, on the course of the old workings on No. 9 reef, directly underneath where the big patch of gold was got; driving and stoping on Jones' lead at the 100-feet level; driving and sloping on the Dawn of Hope lead above the Point Russell level, and stoping on the Golden Age footwall leads above same level; also the surface workings on the Eureka section. Tup country in the south-east crosscut at the 15()-feet level has been much harder for speedy progress, but is still a fairly good class of sandstone. The workings on the different leads in the Golden Age, Point Russell, and Reuben Parr sections of the mine are looking fairly well, and occasionally a pound or two of picked stone is got; altogether 151b were secured for the week. All the repairs which were in hand during the holidays are now completed, and everything is in thorough working order again. HazrLBAKK (January 12). The drive on the No. 1 reef at the No. 2 intermediate level is being proceeded with. The reef in the face is about 15 inches in thickness. It is carrying a fait* amount of mineral of a promising character, but we have not been successful in seeing any gold in the stone since we commenced driving on it. A little gold has been seen in the leader in the leading stope to the westward of the crosscut at this level, but nothing to select a3 picked stone. The leader is about sis inches thick, and the country around it is of a good description. A stope is also being carried forward on the cross reef above this level, from the pass on Turtle's workings. In breaking down the reef, yesterday, colours of geld were seen in the quartz.

[BY telegraph.— press association.] Dcsedin. Monday. The Sew Hoy obtained 87oz retorted gold from the two dredges for nine days' work.
