HOSPITAL AND CHARITABLE AID BOARD.
The usual meeting of the Hospital and Charitable Aid Board took place yesterday afternoon at their offices, High-street. Present .-—Messrs. P. Dignan (chairman), J. Gordon, Swales, W. B. White, G. Kissling, Bruce, and C. Hesketh. Charlotte Chambers' Case.—The report of the House Committee and the evidence in this case was referred to the new Board or its consideration and decision. The chairman moved, "That the explanation of Dr. Makgill be deemed satisfactory." «7m'i. Gordon moved as an amendment, That inasmuch as the hon. medical-staff claim to be solely resoonsible for all cases brought to the Hospital for medical treatment, and as they have justified the action of Dr. Makgill in refusing admission to Charlotte Chambers, on the morning of the sth ulfc, the Board places the responsibility of such refusal upon the honorary staff." The amendment was lost, and the original motion was carried. A letter from the Auckland Women's Liberal League, enclosing a resolution denouncing the action of Dr. Makgill in the Charlotte Chambers' case was received. There was no discussion on it. '\ Treatment of Patients.—With regard to certain complaints made by patients in tho North Auckland Hospital District with reference to their treatment) in the Auck-
land Hospital, the medical officer's report was submitted and read, rebutting the charges, and making explanatory details of treatment with regard to certain patients. A copy of tho report was ordered to be forwarded by the socretary to the chairman of the North Auckland Board. Liabilities of Local
Bodies.—The
House Steward of the Hospital notified that the following amounts were due by out-dis-triccs on account rendered up to December 31North of Auckland Hospital and Charitable Aid Board, £673 19s 7d ; Coromandel Hospital Board, £77 16s; Bay of Plenty Hospital and Charitable Aid Board, £38 8s ; Thames Hospital Board, £15 8s; Waikato Hospital and Charitable Aid Board, £3 4s ; North Canterbury Charitable Aid Board, £31 4s : total, £839 7s 7d. Correspondence.—With regard to the case of the woman Drum, Dr. Macgregor wrote, stating thab if she could nob be taken care of by the Salvation Army Rescue Home, he did not know any other institution where she could be received, unless the Mount Magdala Asylum, Christ- I church. The institution was not under
Government control, but the Rev. Father Ginaty could furnish all particulars. Mr. 0. Dalbeith, of Red Hill, Northern Wairoa, wrote to the Board, stating that an inmate of the Old Men's Home was stopping at his place, and asking to be allowed 8s a week, or the usual allowance for keeping him : The request was not entertained. Mr. A. G. Stevens, messenger and clerk, relief department, asked for an increase of salary : Referred to the Finance Committee. Dispensary.—Dr. Hooper reported that during December there had been 48 new cases under treatment, and 456 medical prescriptions compounded. The prevalent complaint had been diarrhoea anions children in arms, a characteristic of hob weather. Nurses' Certificates. — The following
certificates were handed over to the Lady Superintendent of the Hospital for presentation to the undermentioned nurses—
Three years' certificates to Nurses Hatbaway, Kenrick, Maxwell, and a two years' certificate to Nurse Hare. Reports.—Reports relating to Costley Home and children boarded out were read.
